The other side of pain is bliss

I want to talk about pain today, the otherside of pain, is bliss, when we face it and let it go. But so many of us don’t know how to deal with it, so we avoid it. Pain is a feeling, we either feel it in our body physically, or emotionally and mentally. It’s like a build up of negative thoughts, feelings and memories that we try to avoid as much as possible, because we don’t want to feel it. It hurts. It’s painful.

Physically our heart aches, our head tightens and we may feel heavy, tired and avoidant. We try our darndest to distract ourselves from the almighty pain of hurt and dissappointment. Even the bravest of souls cannot avoid feeling the pain.

Those who sit to meditate and come face to face with the internal sensations and memories. Or the strong ones who push through the pain barrier of exercise and physical exhaustion.

On the other side of pain is bliss, right?

Like a dam, when we can no longer tolerate the build up, the pressure, it bursts out like a torrent, tears like a rushing river. Our body screams no more, it moves us to tears. Our tears are a healthy sign, of being able to connect deeply with ourselves and acknowledge the pain.

If we suppress our tears, our emotion, it will take hold in the body. As dis-ease. A discomfort we avoided so much, it had to bury itself deeper, ashamed of itself. Ashamed of feeling, of having any emotion at all. It was not safe, there was no support, and no comfort.

When we are able to let go of all the pain, hurt, guilt, disappointment, anger, shame, regret and sadness, there is a lightness. An energy of relief, a blissful lightness that flows through our body and our mind. No longer does the pain unconsciously program our hardware – our mind and body. We get to make better decisions for ourselves, we get to feel free. Allow ourselves to feel light and blissful.

Even the brave ones avoid it.

It’s natural to avoid pain, like not touching a hot coal. Our unconscious mind tells our body, it gives the instruction, avoid the pain, don’t go there, don’t look at it, ignore it and it will go away. That is how our mind and body kept us safe for eons, but now, we have different challenges, and different decisions to make.

It is a changing world, we must learn to rediscover ourselves as a human being in this modern world. Know our gifts, our talents, our values, our expectations, our judgements, our beliefs, our patterns, know and understand how our mind, body connection works and how we see the world from our unique experience and perspective. We all have a different view and understanding of life, learn how others tick too.

This level of understanding and knowing makes a big difference in how we react, respond and make decisions.
